One of my favorite breakfast items before going vegan were biscuit sandwiches. The combinations were endless, and they were conveniently available at fast food places. Once I went vegan, I realized there are not any places that offer vegan biscuits near me and the idea of making them myself honestly scared me.
Even though I have been baking my whole life, the treats I have crafted would not fully qualify as homemade. I considered myself a “box mix queen”, due to how I could create a homemade taste without the homemade hassle.
A great flood of joy and relief flowed through me when I realized that vegan biscuits are arguably one of the easiest baked goods to make. And when I realized I didn’t even have to roll them out? I did a happy dance and immediately decided that these quick and easy drop biscuits were the new go-to breakfast item for my family.
What is even better about these biscuits, is you can prep the dry mix ahead of time to really take the stress out of mornings and allow for a more peaceful start to your day.
What you’ll need for these vegan drop biscuits
For this recipe you will need:

- a spoon for mixing
- a fork
- measuring cups

Ingredients to gather for these vegan drop biscuits
You’ll need the following list of ingredients for these vegan drop biscuits. You can also use the prepped biscuit mix listed on my post of vegan dry mixes, you will only need butter and buttermilk.
For the biscuits…
- Plant-based buttermilk
- You can easily make your own by combining 1 cup of plant-based milk of your choice and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Let it sit for at least 5 mins before using.
- All-purpose flour
- I have used 1-to-1 gluten free flour for this recipe in the past, more buttermilk will be needed and the biscuits will turn out denser. My family still enjoyed them.
- Baking powder
- Baking soda
- Salt
- Coldbutter
- Use any firm plant-based butter of your choice. I like Country Crock plant butter with olive oil.
Steps to follow for these vegan drop biscuits
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 450. Combine all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
If you are using a dry mix, give the jar a shake before dumping the contents out into a bowl, then go to step 2.
Step 2: Once combined, add in your butter. I like to slice mine into tablespoon sized portions before adding for easier mixing. Use a fork to combine the dry mix and butter into a fine powdery, mixture.
Step 3: Mix in the plant-based butter mix. The batter will be on the thicker side, but it should not appear dry. At this step, you could also mix in other ingredients like blueberries, chocolate chips, or cheeses.
Step 4: Now it is time to drop the biscuit dough onto the pan! You can make 6 – 8 biscuits depending on the size of your biscuits.
Step 5: Allow the biscuits to bake for 10-15 mins. Once they have been removed from the oven, you can top them with more butter and serve them with things like scrambled tofu. Enjoy them warm!
