If you like banana nut bread, but you are allergic to nuts than this is a great alternative. The oats in the bread provides a nutty texture without all the dangerous side affects. There is nut or seed butter included in the recipe, but it can be left out without affecting the overall texture.

Disclaimer: I am allergic to the nuts traditionally used in banana nut bread, so I can’t actually say with certainty that there are more similarities than differences when comparing this bread to actual banana nut bread, but if I had to guess what banana nut bread was like, this would be my guess.

I love this recipe so much cause it is delicious, protein packed, and incredibly easy to make. You can even get creative with different mix-ins like chocolate chips, blueberries, or even nuts (if you aren’t allergic.)

Prep the dry mix ahead of time for spur of the moment baking, meal planning, and added convenience in the kitchen.

What you’ll need for vegan banana oat bread

For this recipe you will need:

  • baking dish
  • something for mixing (fork or spoon)
  • measuring cups

Ingredients to gather for this vegan banana oat bread

You’ll need the following list of ingredients for this banana “nut” bread. You can also use the prepped mix listed on my post of vegan dry mixes along with the listed wet ingredients.

For the vegan banana oat bread

  1. Ripe bananas
    • The riper your bananas, the sweeter the bread.
  2. Oats
    • Rolled oats provide more texture, giving a “nuttier” experience.
    • Quick oats provide less texture, and less “nuttiness”.
  3. All-purpose flour
  4. Baking powder
  5. Salt
  6. Neutral oil
    • I like to use avocado or canola.
  7. Nut or seed butter
    • I like to use cashew butter.
  8. Plant-based milk
    • I like to use oat milk.
  9. Vanilla
  10. Syrup or sugar
    • I like to use maple syrup.
  11. Mix-ins of your choice
    • I love to use chocolate chips or blueberries.

Steps to follow for vegan banana oat bread

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

For this recipe, I like to dump all the ingredients into a baking dish and use a fork to mix it all together.

If you are using a dry mix, give the jar a shake before dumping the contents out into a bowl, then add the wet ingredients.

Step 2: Once all the ingredients have been incorporated, add any mix-ins if you haven’t already. As shown in the photo, I used blueberries in one portion, chocolate chips in another portion, and left a portion plain.

Step 3: Bake in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

Step 4: I’ve found it is best to allow it to cool a little before cutting into it, but enjoy it warm.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 whole Ripe Bananas
  • 1 cup Rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cup Unbleached all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Baking powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1/2 cup Neutral oil
  • 6 tbsp Nut or seed butter optional
  • 3/4 cup Plant-based milk
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla
  • 1/4 cup Maple (or alternative) syrup
  • 3/4 cup Mix-ins of choice (choc. chips, blueberries, etc.) optional

Equipment

  • 1 Baking dish
  • 1 Fork or spoon for mixing
  • 1 Measuring cup set

Method
 

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Add all ingredients into a baking dish and mix it all together.
  3. Bake in oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Wait a few minutes before cutting once removed from the oven. Serve warm.
